Heritage Grocers Group Announces Return Of ‘Loteria Scratcher Sweepstakes,’ Now Expanded Across All Banner Companies

Ontario, Calif. (June 19, 2024)Heritage Grocers Group (“Heritage” or “HGG”), one of the leading Hispanic food retailers in the country, announced today the return of its annual Loteria Scratcher Sweepstakes program, now through August 19. With the ‘Loteria Scratcher Sweepstakes,’ program customers of all HGG banner stores – Cardenas Markets, El Rancho Supermercado, Tony’s Fresh Market and Los Altos Ranch Market – can play for a chance to win their share of a combined $1.5 million in prizes.

Colloquially also known as “Mexican Bingo,” Loteria is an iconic game and cultural symbol that celebrates rich cultures and connects people of all ages – an effort that heavily resonates with HGG’s mission. This year is Cardenas Markets’ fourth year running the program, and the first year that Loteria Scratcher Sweepstakes is available at all 115 HGG banner company stores.

Through the purchase of participating products indicated with green tags throughout the store, customers will receive (1) ‘Lotería Scratcher Card’ with an instant win prize or a code
for a Free Digital Scratcher*.

In total, $63,000 in scholarship funds from Tony’s 21 store locations will be awarded for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Heritage Grocers Group Portfolio of Companies Launch Scholarship Programs

Every store under the Heritage Grocer Group banner will award one (1) – $3,000 scholarship to a local student who demonstrates academic excellence, financial need, leadership attributes and a commitment to serving their local community. In total, $345,000 in scholarship funds from 115 stores will be awarded for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Heritage Grocers Group Brightens the Holidays Across the Communities it Serves

Ontario, California (December 21, 2023) – Heritage Grocers Group (“Heritage” or “HGG”), one of the leading Hispanic food retailers in the country, is brightening the holidays for residents in the communities where Heritage banner grocery stores operate.

“Giving back is not just about making a donation, it is about making a difference,” said Adam Salgado, Chief Marketing Officer for Heritage Grocers Group. “In the same way Heritage Grocers Group commits to meeting the unique food preferences of its broad geographical customer base, it is also dedicated to making a positive difference and lasting impact in our customers lives through our local giving and community-based support efforts.”

This holiday season, all 65 Cardenas Markets store locations launched a chainwide, round-up giving campaign where its customers can round-up their purchases to the nearest dollar to raise funds for the initiatives the Cardenas Markets Foundation supports.  These initiatives include education, children’s wellbeing, health and wellness, and hunger relief. All funds raised from this program go directly back into the local communities where Cardenas Markets operates.  

Recently, the Cardenas Markets Foundation also made donations totaling $50,000 to local food banks within its operating areas.  An additional, $50,000 is also being donated to organizations focused on improving the health and well-being of children in need including:

•  Children’s Fund

•  Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital

•  Alum Rock Counseling Center

•  Grail Family Services

•  UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Foundation

•  Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital

•  Boys and Girls Club of Coachella Valley

•  Boys and Girls Club of Cathedral City

•  California Family Life Center


Texas-based El Rancho Supermercado held several community events including its annual “Christmas in Houston” holiday giveaway hosted in conjunction with Univision on Dec. 3 where over 10,000 local residents received blankets and toys.   El Rancho Supermercado also held a posada, a traditional Hispanic celebration commemorating the Nativity story, in Dallas where over 700 families participated in games and received over $10,000 in prizes.

Tony’s Fresh Market based in Chicago is hosting a customer food drive at its Schaumburg location through Jan. 6th.  All items collected during this food drive will be donated to United Methodist Food Pantry.  The company also made food and backpack donations to Bags of Hope for their December food drive held on Dec. 16.     Also, in partnership with the Illinois State Police and Girl Scout Troop 15, Tony’s Fresh Market supported the annual Gift-A-Bear event by sponsoring 10 children from Caroline Sibley Elementary School.  Each child received a Build-A-Bear and McDonald’s gift card.
